October 10th, 2007 NO THANKSGIVING FOR TWO PUSHY THIEVES
On Saturday Oct. 6th, in an attempt to take advantage of the Thanksgiving weekend, these two "pushy" thieves failed to steal this car. After cutting the gate lock, and putting their own license plates on the car, they used a poorly made duplicate key to unlock the vehicle. The duplicate key would not start the car, because it lacked the security chip required for the electronic ignition.
The two males then decided to push the car out the front gate, but lacked the muscle to get it up the incline. After failing to steal the car, they parked it, and closed the gate. It was expected that they would later return better prepared. However, the waiting HARP Security officers followed the thieves, until they began driving erratically on the Eastbound QEW. A short while after losing sight of the thieves' car, HARP Security was contacted by the Halton Regional Police to attend an accident scene at Trafalgar Rd., and identify an abandoned vehicle. As expected, it was the same vehicle that was seen leaving the dealership with the two suspects. After failing to make the turn, and ending up in the ditch, the occupants had fled the scene on foot. Halton Police brought in their Canine unit, and after a short search, the suspects were located, arrested, and numerous charges were laid. In addition to the duplicate key for the car they attempted to steal, the two thieves also had additional keys for a BMW, and a Mercedes-Benz.
KEY MANAGEMENT SHOULD INCLUDE PERIODIC AUDITS
